Farrier / Farrier Recognition

If you want to work as a farrier, you need state recognition.

Examination certificates in the field of hoof and hoof shoeing acquired outside Germany can be treated in the same way in accordance with the Farriery Recognition Ordinance (HufBeschl-AnerkennV). This Regulation also regulates the procedure for State recognition for persons with certificates treated as such.

Who should I contact?

The responsibility lies with the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES).

This procedure can also be handled by a "Point of Single Contact". The "Point of Single Contact" is a special service offered by the municipalities and the state for service providers.

Which documents are required?

Initially, no special documentation is required. If an existing qualification is to be recognised, it must be accompanied by the documents proving this qualification. The competent authority will provide information on further documents required in individual cases.

What are the fees?

The fee is at least 125.00 EUR. It is based on the requirements of Section XI of the Schedule of Fees for Administration in the Field of Consumer Protection and Veterinary Affairs (GOVV), as amended.

There are no deadlines to be observed.
