Consumer protection

The aim of consumer protection is to protect people in their role as consumers from the harmful or adverse effects of consumer goods and services.

Consumer protection is usually divided into two areas: economic and so-called health-related consumer protection.

There is no specific law on matters of economic consumer protection. It is here that the problem in question and the contractual agreements determine the possibilities of enforcing your rights as a consumer.

In the field of health-related consumer protection, there is a legal right to be offered to you, as a consumer, only foods, cosmetics and consumer goods that are health and safety- are safe from a technical point of use.

The Consumer Information Act (VIG) entered into force on 1 May 2008. Since then, the food monitoring authorities of the countries have been obliged in principle to grant the consumer the right to information. This right to information has been extended by the amendment to the law since September 2012. In future, consumers will not only be able to receive information on food, feed and supplies, cosmetics or wine, but also on technical consumer products within the meaning of the Product Safety Act, such as household appliances, Furniture or DIY items.
