Release of a vehicle: certificate

Since 1 January 2007, last owners of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (i.e. vehicles carrying goods up to 3.5 tonnes) have been able to return the end-of-life vehicles they wish to dispose of to the manufacturer or importer free of charge. They are obliged to take back end-of-life vehicles and must set up a comprehensive return system for this purpose themselves or by commissioned third parties. The free withdrawal does not apply to end-of-life vehicles which have removed essential components or components or electronic control units and which were not registered in the European Union at least 1 month before the definitive decommissioning.

If you, as a vehicle owner, want your worn-out vehicle to be permanently taken out of circulation, leave it to one of the competent authorities for disposal. There you will receive a proof of recovery, which must be presented to the vehicle registration office for deregistration.
