Discontinuation of activity as a certification service provider Advertisement

Certification service providers issue qualified certificates or qualified time stamps within the meaning of the Signature Act.

Any person who acts as a certification service provider and ceases to operate must notify the competent authority immediately.

The certification service provider must ensure that:

  • the qualifying certificates that are valid when the activity is discontinued are taken over by another certification service provider;
  • the affected signature key holders are notified of the cessation of activity and the acceptance of qualified certificates by another certification service provider, and
  • the documentation is handed over to the acquiring certification service provider or to the responsible authority in accordance with Section 10 of the Signature Act.

If the qualified certificates are not inherited by any other certification service provider, they must be revoked. If insolvency proceedings have been opened, this must also be notified to the competent authority without delay.
