The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Apply for a European firearms pass

When you want to take your weapons with you within the European Union (EU), to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you need a European firearms pass.

The European Firearms Pass is valid for 5 years and can be extended twice for 5 years at a time.

Only weapons for which you have a valid permit for the purchase and possession of weapons (weapons possession card - WBK or hunting license) are entered in your European Firearms Pass. Up to 10 weapons are entered in the European Firearms Pass. If you wish to take more weapons with you, you will receive another European Firearms Pass.

You may take the corresponding ammunition with you for the registered weapons, but only as much as you are likely to need. Experience has shown that hunters need less ammunition than sports shooters.

The European firearms pass is no guarantee that you are actually allowed to take the registered weapons into the country. You should therefore check before traveling whether you are allowed to take the weapons with you to the country in question. In addition to the European firearms pass, you must also carry an identification document and the firearms ownership card in which the firearms are registered. It is also advisable to carry an invitation from the hunting club or the hunting license for the country or confirmation of registration for a shooting competition.

The European firearms pass is not an import document and does not entitle you to take firearms or ammunition abroad permanently. You will need other permits for this.

To complete the application more quickly, you can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR-ID):

  • your personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for your personal details
  • the permit NWR ID for the firearms permit (E-NWR ID)
  • the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).

You can obtain the NWR IDs on request from the relevant weapons authority.
