Formation and tasks of the hunting cooperative

The hunting cooperative is formed by the owners of the land belonging to a common hunting district. A community hunting district is formed by all areas of land in a municipality, city or separate district that do not belong to a private hunting district. Real estate owned by one and the same person with at least 75 ha contiguous area forms a private hunting district and does not belong to the hunting cooperative. According to § 12 of the Lower Saxony Hunting Act (NJAgdG), the hunting district of the hunting cooperative must have at least 250 hectares of contiguous area. Membership is linked to real estate and arises by operation of law.

According to § 16 NJagdG, the hunting cooperative is a corporation under public law. It is subject to the supervision of the district or the district-free city.
The hunting cooperative elects a hunting board that represents the hunting cooperative in and out of court. Decisions and resolutions of the Hunting Comrades' Assembly are made by voting, whereby a majority of the persons and the area are decisive.

The circumstances of the hunting cooperative are regulated in a statute and can be viewed there.

Tasks of a hunting cooperative:

  • Decision on the type of hunting use
  • Decision on the type of lease (e.g. public bidding, direct award) and the selection of the tenant
  • Drafting of the hunting lease agreement
  • Annual shooting planning in agreement with the district, the independent city and the hunting advisory board (§§ 21, 25 NJagdG)
  • Decision on the appropriation of the net proceeds of hunting use
  • Compensation for damage caused by wildlife in agriculture and forestry
