Passport issuance new due to change of name upon marriage or establishment of a civil partnership
After a change of name in the event of a marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership, a new passport is required.
The issuance of a new passport is only necessary if the passport continues to be used.

Process flow
The applicant must present themselves in person to apply for the passport (e-passport). The application will be filled out on site with the processor. All the applicant has to do is sign.

What else should I know?
The passport cannot be taken with you immediately after the application has been submitted, as it is produced at the Federal Printing Office in Berlin. If the passport is needed earlier, an express pass can be requested.
If you intend to travel abroad immediately after the marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership, you can apply for a new passport before the marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership; in any case, the handover will only take place after the marriage or establishment of the civil partnership and if the documents proving the use of the name are available.
