Passport issuance provisionally
A temporary machine-readable passport will only be issued if the time itself is too short for the issuance of an express passport(production time max. 72 hours) and it can no longer be handed over in time before the first use.
Who should I contact?
The responsibility lies with the municipality, the joint municipality and the city in which the main residence is.

Which documents are required?
- up-to-date biometric-compatible photograph, in fit (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal shot without border, without headgear and without covering the eyes

- Identity card
- If necessary, a civil status certificate (birth/marriage certificate) is required, e.g. if the spelling of the name is unclear

Process flow
The applicant must present himself in person to apply for the passport (e-passport). The application is completed on site with the processor. All the applicant has to do is sign.
The personal visit is indispensable because of the handwritten signature on the application form and the identity verification. The identity can be proven by an official photo ID. This is usually the identity card or the previous passport.
On the other hand, the passport can also be picked up by a written representative who must identify himself.
What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?
An extension of the validity period is not possible.

What else should I know?
It is not permissible to subsequently change the name in the temporary passport.
The loss of a temporary passport must be reported immediately.
