Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Applying for a residence permit to look for a job for professionals with academic training

You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment for skilled workers if you have a completed university degree. If you do not have a German university degree, your degree must either be recognised or comparable with a German university degree. You can have your degree recognised or established as comparable before you enter Germany (see further information).

If you are already in Germany, you can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment if you were in possession of a residence title for gainful employment or a residence title for the purpose of an EU study-related internship immediately beforehand.

If you wish to pursue employment in a regulated profession, the necessary permit to pursue the profession must already have been granted or promised at the time the residence title for the purpose of seeking employment is issued.

Regulated professions are professional activities whose admission or exercise is tied to the possession of certain professional qualifications by legal or administrative regulations. Professions regulated in Germany are, for example, doctor, nurse, lawyer, teacher, educator or engineer.

With the residence permit for job-seeking purposes, you can take up a trial job for up to ten hours per week, which the qualification qualifies you to do.

The residence permit is issued for up to six months.
