Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Request simple information from the population register


As part of a simple registration register information request, you will receive the following from the responsible office

  • Surname,
  • first names,
  • doctorate and
  • current addresses

for the person you are looking for. If the person is deceased, you will be informed of this.

It is at the discretion of the responsible authority whether to provide you with information about the data of the person you are looking for. Simple information from the register of residents will not be provided if a block on information is entered in the register of residents or if the competent authority has reason to believe that this could pose a risk to the interests of the person concerned or another person worthy of protection.

Who should I contact?

Responsibility lies with the municipality, the joint municipality and the town in which the person for whom simple information from the population register is to be obtained is resident.

Requirements

  • The person you are looking for must be clearly identifiable on the basis of the information you provide. This means that you must already have data on the person concerned. This is usually the first and last name, date of birth, gender or last known address.
  • If you use the data for commercial purposes, you must provide this information.
  • When making the request, you must declare that you will not use the data for advertising or address trading purposes or that you have the consent of the data subject to do so.
  • If you send the request to the responsible body for the purposes of advertising or address trading and the responsible body does not have your consent, you must declare to the responsible body that you have consent.
  • The competent authority may require you to present the consent of the data subject.
  • There must be no information block in the register of residents.

What are the fees?

Fees are charged in accordance with Annex 1 to Section 1 (1) of the General Fee Regulations of the State of Lower Saxony (AllGO) in accordance with No. 63.

Fee: at least EUR 9.00

The fee is calculated according to the time spent.

The full administrative fee is also due if no registration documents are (or are no longer) available for the person in question or if no person can be clearly identified from the information provided by the enquirer or if the content of the information provided is already known.

What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?

Deadlines may have to be observed. Please contact the responsible office.

What else should I know?

Information will be refused if the person in question is subject to an information block or a conditional blocking notice.
