Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Youth work offers


Youth work is an independent part of youth welfare. It performs the educational tasks according to § 11 of the Eighth Book of the Social Code (SGB VIII) - Child and Youth Welfare (KJHG) and advocates for the concerns and interests of young people in public.

Youth work is intended to make young people aware of their shared responsibility in society, to enable them to become more self-determined and to bring them closer to social commitment. It strengthens young people's ability to act on their own responsibility by building on their interests and allowing them to have a say.

You can get suggestions and help from the competent authority

  • in the development of quality criteria for youth work institutions and services,
  • in the implementation of own measures and offers
  • for the project management of regionalised youth work,
  • during inspections to ensure compliance with the provisions of the statutory protection of minors and punishment in the event of violations of the provisions of the statutory protection of minors

What else should I know?

The Children, Youth and Family Section of the Lower Saxony State Social Welfare Office supports the sponsors and institutions of youth work in Lower Saxony with specialist conferences, training courses and information events. It works on numerous funding programmes of the various institutions and supports institutions of extracurricular youth work.

As an interest group for children and young people in Lower Saxony, the Lower Saxony State Youth Council contributes to improving their living conditions and performs a lobbying function vis-à-vis politics, administration and the public.
In the Lower Saxony State Youth Council, 19 state-wide active youth organisations have joined forces to form a working group.
