Traffic on public roads with vehicles and trains whose dimensions, axle loads or total weights actually exceed the limits generally permitted by law requires a special permit.
Prerequisites
A permit or exemption may only be issued if certain conditions are met, e.g:

The application should generally be submitted 14 days before the transport is carried out.
An individual permit or exemption permit is valid for one journey with one vehicle or vehicle combination.
A permanent permit or exemption permit up to a maximum of 3 years may only be issued if, in addition to the requirements for an individual permit, further conditions are met, e.g:
- police escort is not required,
- only for certain routes,
- or for all roads within the jurisdiction of the permit authority and the neighboring road traffic authorities.
