Birth registers
The following data is recorded in the birth register :
- the child's first and last names,
- the place, date and hour of birth and the sex of the child,
- the first and last names of the parents
- at the request of a parent, his/her legal affiliation to a religious community governed by public law.
Mother of the child is the woman who gave birth to the child.
In the case of a married mother, the father of the child is the husband. If the child was born after the death of the husband, this man is considered the father, provided that the birth took place within 300 days of his death. If the mother is divorced and the child is born after the divorce decree has become final, the former husband is not considered the father of the child.
If the mother is not married at the time of birth, a man can only be registered as the father in the birth certificate if he has already acknowledged paternity. Otherwise, the competent authority shall subsequently enter the father in the register of births.
