Show ducks and geese kept together with chickens or turkeys
Your ducks and geese may only be exhibited at a poultry exhibition or poultry market if swab samples have been taken from the flock of origin of the animals prior to the event and virologically tested in the laboratory for the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (avian influenza).
The test must be carried out at least 7 days before the event. Samples from 60 animals in your flock are required. If you keep fewer than 60 animals, your entire flock must be tested. The result must be negative.
The testing of ducks and geese may be omitted if these animals are kept together with chickens or turkeys (sentinel husbandry).
The chickens or turkeys must be used to detect the introduction or spread of avian influenza at an early stage (sentinel animals).
You must notify the competent authority immediately if you keep ducks and geese together with chickens or turkeys.
The required number of sentinel animals can be found in Annex 2 of the Avian Influenza Ordinance.
