Cultural monument: Research/excavation - approval
Excavations for cultural monuments, salvage of cultural monuments from bodies of water and earthworks at a site where cultural monuments are suspected to be in the ground require the approval of the competent authority.
Permission may be granted subject to conditions, e.g.
- Management of the measure by an expert,
- Type of planning and execution,
- treatment, securing and documentation of the soil finds,
- reporting,
- final preparation of the excavation or find site.
Who should I contact?
The responsibility lies with the lower monument protection authority or the representative for the archaeological preservation of monuments at the district or municipality, which is responsible for the task of the lower building supervisory authority.

What else should I know?
Earthworks and construction work where it is suspected that cultural monuments will be discovered require a permit.
Projects in excavation protection areas that could endanger hidden cultural monuments require the approval of the competent authority. Agricultural and forestry use generally does not require a permit.
