Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Apply for a discounted public transport ticket

The certificate of eligibility for a reduced local transport ticket is a voluntary service provided by the municipality for low-income residents. You can use the entitlement certificate to buy discounted single or season tickets for local public transport. You can obtain the tickets with the authorisation certificate and your identification document at the points of sale of your public transport association.

Requirements

  • You have your main residence in the city or municipality for which a discounted public transport ticket is to be obtained
  • They refer to:
    • Assistance for subsistence or basic security according to Social Security Code XII
    • Citizen's allowance or social benefit according to Social Security Code II
    • Benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act
    • War victims' welfare benefits under the Federal Supply Act

Which documents are required?

Varies depending on the municipality. But at least:

  • Identification document (identity card or passport, proof of asylum seeker)
  • Passport for low-income earners or proof of receipt of
    • Assistance for subsistence or basic security according to Book XII of the Social Code or
    • Citizen's allowance or social benefit according to Social Security Code II or
    • Benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act, or
    • War victims' welfare benefits under the Federal Supply Act
  • If necessary, further documents

Process flow

  • You can find out whether your city or municipality offers a certificate of eligibility for a discounted public transport ticket and whether you meet the requirements.
  • They submit an application with appropriate evidence to the competent authority.
  • Your details will be checked and the social passport will be issued.
  • You will receive the certificate of eligibility for the purchase of a discounted ticket in person or by post.
  • You buy a discounted ticket from your public transport provider before you start your journey.
