Apply for a residence permit for a study-related internship EU
You can obtain a residence permit for a study-related internship in the EU if you
- have obtained a university degree in a third country in the last 2 years before submitting your application or
- are still studying for a university degree in a third country.
A third country is a country outside the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA).
A higher education institution is any educational institution that offers a degree that is comparable to a higher education degree that could be obtained in Germany. Comparability is based on the assessment recommendations of the Central Office for Foreign Education. The internship must correspond in terms of subject and level to the degree course or university degree.
You cannot take up employment during your stay.
If you have not yet reached the age of 18, the person entitled to take care of you must agree to your planned stay.
The residence permit for a study-related internship is limited in time. It is issued for the agreed duration of the internship, but for a maximum of 6 months.

Issuing a residence permit: EUR 100.00
Under certain conditions, a fee reduction or fee exemption may be possible.
What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?
- The residence permit should be applied for at least eight weeks before the expiry of your valid visa.
- Deadline for appeal: 1 month
