Applying for a parenting assistant or care assistant
A parenting support worker or care assistant can help a child or young person in everyday life, in dealing with their parents and with social problems.
Possible forms of help are
- Talking about problems, fears and behavior,
- Help in coming to terms with stressful experiences,
- Support in solving problems with family, friends, teachers or other people,
- Support with visits to the authorities.
- Older young people also receive further help: Support in finding work and accommodation,
- Help with separation from parents,
- Help with becoming independent.
Note: In contrast to "socio-educational family support", a parenting support worker concentrates their help largely on the child or young person in question. If possible, he involves the social environment.
This is a type of educational support service. It can also apply to young adults.
Who should I contact?
To the local youth welfare office

Requirements
- You are the person with custody of a child (parent or guardian)
- Not all of them can guarantee that the child will be well
- The help of an educational assistant or care assistant is suitable and necessary (this is checked by the Youth Welfare Office).
What are the fees?
In the case of outpatient educational assistance, there are no costs for the applicant. The costs are covered by the Youth Welfare Office.
Process flow
- Contact the responsible youth welfare office.
- You will be shown possible help in a personal meeting. This could be, for example, a parenting support worker or a care assistant for your child.
- If this help comes into question, then apply for educational assistance.
- All parties involved (you, your child, the educational advisor/care assistant and the youth welfare office) will meet to discuss a support plan. The help plan sets out how the help is to be organized and which goals are to be achieved.
The youth welfare office usually commissions an independent welfare organization. The educational advisor or care assistant is employed there.
