Your selected location: Haselünne (497...)

Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Passport change due to change of place of residence

Only the place of residence is noted in the passport, not the full address. This information must be updated if your place of residence in Germany changes. If you move within the same town or city, no change is necessary.

The change of place of residence in the passport can be made in person or by a person authorized in writing at the relevant citizens' office at the new place of residence.

Alternatively, if your local authority offers online residence registration, you can update your address using this digital procedure. In this case, the corresponding address sticker for the passport will be sent to you by post so that you do not need to appear in person.

If you move abroad, the new place of residence can also be entered in the passport. If your final place of residence abroad has not yet been determined, you can have your current place of residence entered.

Who should I contact?

The citizens' registration office (or passport office) at your new place of residence is responsible.

If you are abroad, please contact your local German diplomatic mission.
