Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Which documents are required?

  • valid identity card
  • the driver's license
  • a certificate of good conduct of document type "0" (official certificate of good conduct, to be applied for at the municipality of residence. This is sent directly to the driving license authority by the Federal Office of Justice). A private certificate of good conduct is not sufficient.
  • a certificate of medical examination for applicants for the issue or renewal of a driving license for categories D, D1, DE D1E or a driving license for passenger transport for cabs, hire cars, ambulances or passenger cars in regular services or for commercial excursions or vacation destination trips in accordance with Section 11 (9) and Section 48 (4) and (5) of the Ordinance on the Admission of Persons to Road Traffic (FeV). General practitioners have the relevant form or must order it.
  • a certificate or report on the ophthalmological examination of applicants for the issue or renewal of a driving license for categories D, D1, DE D1E or the driving license for passenger transport for cabs, hire cars, ambulances or passenger cars in regular services or for commercial excursions or vacation destination trips in accordance with § 12 Para. 6 and § 48 Para. 4 and 5 FeV. Ophthalmologists have the relevant form or must order it.

If a driver's license for passenger transport is extended beyond the age of 60, the applicant must meet additional requirements with regard to resilience, orientation, concentration, attention and responsiveness. Proof that these requirements have been met must be provided in the form of a company or occupational medical report or a report from an officially recognized assessment body for driving fitness.

Process flow

A personal appearance is required as signatures must be provided.

The competent authority will check the number of points with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The applicant will then be asked in writing to present the driving license for passenger transport for the renewal to be entered.

What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?

The processing time can be approx. 3 weeks, but no longer than 6 weeks.
