Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Extend registration of prostitution activities

Since the Prostitute Protection Act came into force on July 1, 2017, binding regulations for the practice of prostitution have applied nationwide. Anyone who engages in prostitution in Germany is obliged to register with the authorities and obtain health advice beforehand. The registration must be extended or renewed after one year for persons between the ages of 18 and 21; for persons older than 21, after two years.

The obligation to register and undergo counseling applies without exception to all persons who provide sexual services in return for payment.

The health consultation and registration must take place in person. A certificate of registration will be issued. This is valid nationwide.

Who should I contact?

In principle, the city or municipal administration of the place that is to be the focus of the prostitute's activity is responsible. In individual cases, the district or another city or municipal administration may be responsible.

Requirements

Continuation of work as a prostitute even after the validity of an existing registration certificate has expired.

Which documents are required?

  • Certificate of health consultation (not older than 3 months)
  • Identity card, passport, substitute passport or identity card
  • If you are a foreign national and are not entitled to freedom of movement, you must prove that you have permission to pursue employment or self-employment in Germany.
  • 2 passport photos

Process flow

  • In Lower Saxony, free health advice is provided by the lower health authorities or health authorities. A consultation appointment should be arranged here.
  • An appointment should also be made for the extension of the registration certificate at the regulatory authority of the district or independent city.

What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?

Persons between the ages of 18 and 21 must have their registration certificate renewed after one year. For persons older than 21, the registration must be renewed or extended after two years.

What else should I know?

Both certificates - registration certificate and health consultation certificate - must always be carried when engaging in prostitution. Anyone who is unable to present any or invalid certificates during inspections will be fined.
