Biowaste disposal
Bio-waste accounts for a large part of the waste generated from private households. Extensive biowaste collection can contribute significantly to reducing the amount of residual waste generated in this area.
In Lower Saxony, therefore, the approach is to reduce the volume of waste to be disposed of by collecting biowaste as comprehensively as possible and then composting or fermentation. The competent body is obliged to make special efforts to separate and recycle bio-waste.
For the disposal of biowaste, the organic waste bin is available in many municipal areas. But even with simple methods, such as self-composting, it is possible to produce good quality compost. Self-composting reduces the amount of waste to be disposed of. In this way, committed citizens can also reduce the costs of disposing of their waste. If the generated compost is used as natural fertilizer in your own garden, this can lead to higher yields and savings when buying fertilizers.

What else should I know?
The compost produced in Lower Saxony is mainly used in agriculture as well as in landscaping and horticulture. The delivery is also made to private individuals. The good quality of the composts in Lower Saxony and the marketing of partial quantities via the earth and humus plants based in Lower Saxony, which supply their products to many European countries, contribute considerably to the recycling and marketing.
Good quality as an essential prerequisite for a good usability of compost can only be achieved if careful separation of suitable and unsuitable organic waste is already taken into account during collection. Citizens can significantly influence the quality of composts through their commitment and behaviour.
