Apply for a driving license for accompanied driving from the age of 17

Responsibility lies with the district and the city in which you reside.

for applicants:

• Minimum age: 17 years
• Proof of normal residence in Germany
• Mastery of the basics of caring for people injured in road traffic accidents
• Consent of the legal guardian

for accompanying persons:

• In possession of a valid class B driving license or a corresponding German, EU/EEA or Swiss driving license for 5 years
• Completion of the 30th year of age
• No more than 1 point in the driving aptitude register (FAER)

• Information on the driving aptitude register (FAER) on the website of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI)

• identity card
• original signature on official form
• current biometric photo, in passport format (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal photo without border, without headgear and without covering the eyes
• Proof of first aid
• Proof of an eye test (optician or ophthalmologist)
• Application form for participation in accompanied driving at 17
• Declaration of consent from the legal guardian

Fees are charged in accordance with the respective fee schedule of the responsible office.

The application must be submitted in writing by the driving school or personally by the applicant. If suitable, the competent authority issues the test order to the competent technical testing center.

The competent body issues a so-called test certificate for the driving license, which serves as proof of entitlement to drive in Germany up to 3 months after reaching the age of 18. This test certificate must be carried on all journeys. The certificate specifies the persons intended to accompany the driver, so it is not permitted to drive with any number of different accompanying persons.

An application can be submitted at the earliest 6 months before reaching the minimum age.
