Medicines and dressings for persons covered by statutory accident insurance Assumption of costs
If you need medicines and dressings due to an accident at work or an occupational disease, a doctor will prescribe them. The accident insurance covers the costs, but only up to the amount of any fixed amount. If a more expensive drug or dressing is prescribed above a fixed amount, the doctor must inform you of the additional costs. You have to bear the additional costs yourself.
Accident insurance institutions are:
- Industrial employers' liability insurance associations, broken down by sector
- Public Sector Accident Insurance Institutions
- Agricultural employers' liability insurance associations
Who should I contact?
Responsibility lies with the accident insurance institutions.
Requirements
- The competent accident insurance institution must recognise the damage to health as a result of an accident at work or as an occupational disease.
- The medicinal products and dressings must have been prescribed by a doctor for the treatment of this damage to health.
What are the fees?
The accident insurance institution bears the costs, but only up to the amount of any fixed amount. If a more expensive drug or dressing is prescribed above a fixed amount, the doctor must inform you of the additional costs. These additional costs are borne by you.
Process flow
Every doctor participating in the contract medical care may treat injured persons after accidents at work. However, you must consult a transit doctor if
- the accident injury leads to incapacity for work beyond the day of the accident.
- the necessary medical treatment is expected to last more than a week.
- Remedies and aids are to be prescribed.
- it is a recurrence due to the consequences of an accident.
The transit doctor is particularly qualified for the treatment of injured persons.
What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?
Deadlines may have to be observed. Please contact the competent authority.
What else should I know?
The statutory accident insurance is a branch of the German social insurance. The employer is obliged by law to protect employees against accidents at the workplace or on the way to and from the workplace.
