Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Apply for funding for advanced vocational training

Participants in vocational advancement measures – such as master craftsman, technician, business administrator or educator – can receive financial support regardless of age. You will receive a contribution to the costs of further training regardless of your income and, in the case of full-time measures, an additional contribution to your living expenses depending on your income. Funding is provided by natural persons, not companies.

Who should I contact?

For persons whose primary residence is in Lower Saxony and Bremen, the responsibility lies with the Investment and Development Bank of Lower Saxony - NBank.

Applications / forms

Which documents are required?

  • Application for benefits under the Upgrading Training Act (AFBG)

What are the fees?

There are no fees.

What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?

The application must be submitted by the last day of teaching of the measure or section of the measure at the latest. Measure grants (course and examination fees) can be granted retroactively if the application is submitted in due time (see above).

Maintenance payments cannot be applied for retroactively. They are paid from the beginning of the month in which classes begin, but no earlier than the beginning of the month of application. The benefit ends at the end of the month in which the last class is held.

Processing duration

If possible, please contact the competent authority two months before the start of the measure. In this way, the documents are as up-to-date as possible and the processing can usually be completed by the start of the course. In the summer months, a longer processing time may be expected.

What else should I know?

The funding consists proportionately of a grant and a loan. As the granting authority, the competent authority decides on the amount of the loan and on the amount of the subsidy portion of the measure or maintenance contribution, as well as on the duration during which a maintenance loan is granted for the examination preparation period.

Loan offer: The Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) sends the beneficiary a concrete loan offer in the amount of the loan entitlement stated in the approval notice. In a private-law framework loan agreement with KfW, the beneficiaries can determine whether and to what extent they want to make use of the offer.

Accepting the loan is strongly recommended, as this is the only way to ensure that the loan can be forgiven
