Applying for support for a successful apprenticeship / entry-level qualification (assisted training)

Assisted training (AsA) can accompany you on your way to finding and taking up a suitable training position all the way to the successful completion of your company-based vocational training.

The AsA supports you, for example in the event of poor grades or problems in the training company/vocational school or at home that jeopardise the admission/success of the training.

You can also receive support in completing an entry-level qualification (EQ) via the AsA.

An educational institution with experienced teachers, social pedagogues and a training facilitator will develop an individual support plan with you.

You can receive the support for a limited period of time, depending on your individual needs, but also during the entire training/EQ.

During your participation, a training supervisor will be available to you as a permanent contact person.

If you carry out your in-company vocational training or EQ part-time, you can receive equal support in the accompanying phase of the AsA.

Even as a young person with disabilities, you can participate in the AsA if your individual support needs can be covered and participation in working life is achieved.

Your training company can also be supported within the framework of the AsA in order to make your training or EQ a success.

The AsA is divided into 2 phases.

Pre-phase (optional)

This phase supports the search for and admission to an in-company training place. Contents can be, for example:

  • Internships
  • if necessary, also career guidance,
  • Job application training,
  • Strengthening motivation or
  • to a limited extent, the reduction of language and educational deficits.

Participation takes place full-time (39 lessons per week) and generally lasts 6 months. If you were unable to find an in-company training place during this time, your participation can be extended by a further 2 months.

If you have signed an in-company training contract or contract for the implementation of an EQ, you can take part in the accompanying phase of the AsA at any time if further support is needed.

During your participation in the preliminary phase, you may receive vocational training allowance.

Note for customers who receive benefits from the Jobcenter (Bürgergeld):

If you participate in the AsA preliminary phase, you will receive an additional citizen money bonus of 75 euros per month from 01.07.2023. You do not have to submit your own application.

Note for training companies:

As a training company, you can get to know your future trainee in the preliminary phase, for example through an internship, and also receive support from the training provider. These are, for example:

  • Support of the trainers in the company in preparation for the training
  • Support in the preparation of application documents for the application for subsidies by the training company.

Accompanying phase

In this phase, you can be supported:

  • by helping to reduce language and learning difficulties
  • in the promotion of theoretical skills, knowledge and abilities
  • with measures to successfully complete the training/EQ and not to break it off and
  • in preparation for the transition to a job subject to compulsory insurance after the end of training
  • in stabilising or looking for an employment relationship after the end of training.

Their support is coordinated with the training company and goes beyond imparting content that is customary in the company and training. You and the training company will receive individual support.

The number of hours per week for the exchange and teaching offer will be individually tailored to your needs. As a matter of principle, these take place outside the in-company training period.

The duration of your support is based on your individual needs. This can be the case for the entire duration of your training/EQ, or only temporarily.

The previous offers of training-accompanying assistance (abH) such as:

  • Tutoring for lessons at the vocational school,
  • Tutoring in language lessons,
  • Preparation for class tests and exams,
  • Mediating discussions between trainers, teachers and/or parents,
  • Socio-pedagogical support or
  • Support for personal problems that have an impact on training/EQ

are still available, now within the framework of the AsA.

The AsA can be suspended for a maximum of 6 months if you do not need support at times. If no further support is required at the end of the 6 months, the AsA will be terminated.

Follow-up support after completion of your training is possible for up to 6 months if necessary, once you have found a job. If you have not been able to take up a job, the AsA can still support you in your search for a job for up to 1 year after the end of your vocational training.

If you incur travel costs as part of the AsA, you will have to pay them yourself. The Employment Agency or the Jobcenter will not reimburse these costs.

Note for training companies:

As a training company, you will receive the following during the accompanying phase:

  • the necessary assistance in the administration, organisation and implementation of the training/EQ of the supported trainee/participant in an EQ as well as
  • Accompaniment in day-to-day operations to stabilise the apprenticeship/EQ.

Regular discussions with your trainees/participants in an EQ help to identify difficulties and develop solutions.

For this purpose, a written declaration to the educational institution is required that you enable your trainees or your EQ participants to participate in the individual support services within the framework of the AsA.

Process flow

You can take part in an assisted training measure after a personal interview with the Employment Agency or the Job Centre, if you meet the eligibility requirements, if there is a corresponding measure in your region and a free place. If a personal conversation is not possible, your request can also be discussed by telephone.

  • Contact the responsible employment agency or – if you receive citizens' allowance – the responsible job centre and make an appointment.
  • For this interview, please present the documents and evidence that prove your need for support.
  • You will discuss together your need for support and any questions that arise from your documents.
  • On the basis of the available information, the Employment Agency or the Job Centre will check whether you meet the requirements for participation and inform you of the result.
  • If you are scheduled to participate, the career counsellor at the Employment Agency or the integration specialist at the Job Centre will designate the training provider that offers the assisted training and discuss the further procedure with you.

Note for training companies:

If you are a company that provides training or would like to provide training, please contact the employer hotline of the Employment Agency or the employment agency responsible for your place of employment. If the Jobcenter is responsible for the promotion of your trainee, its responsibility is based on the trainee's residential address.

Competent authority

If you receive unemployment benefit II, the Jobcenter is responsible for you. Otherwise, the Employment Agency is responsible for you.

You can find the office of the Federal Employment Agency or the Jobcenter responsible for you via the Service Finder.

As an employer, please contact the employment agency responsible for your company or the job centre in whose district the young person lives.
