Getting a job opportunity

Have you been unemployed for a long time, may have health problems and would like to regain a foothold in your career? As a recipient of unemployment benefit II, you have the opportunity to work in a job that prepares you for employment on the labour market.

The activities to be carried out must be additional, neutral in terms of competition and in the public interest.

A job opportunity can only be considered if your integration into the labour market cannot be achieved with other benefits. A job opportunity usually lasts up to 24 months. It can be extended for up to 12 months.

Job opportunities are carried out by an appropriate measure provider. This can be, for example, an educational institution, a charitable and public good-oriented company, but also a non-profit association.

Working hours are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Jobcenter.

Your contact person at the Jobcenter will assign you a job opportunity. In addition to your unemployment benefit II, you will receive an additional expense allowance, for example for additional travel costs or for work clothes. The amount of the additional expense allowance is based on the actual expenses incurred as a result of participating in the work opportunity. You will only receive the additional expense allowance for hours in which you have actually performed activities, i.e. not for sick leave, vacation days, weekends and public holidays.

You are insured against accidents through your measure provider.

If you receive benefits in kind from your own funds, such as a monthly ticket for buses and trains, your additional expense allowance will be reduced accordingly. If you receive additional cash benefits from the measure provider, these will be taken into account as income and offset against your unemployment benefit II.

Your promoter will be reimbursed for the costs necessary to carry out the work opportunities.

The decision on a job opportunity is at the discretion of your job centre. You do not have a legal claim to this funding.
