Apply for support for successful training/entry-level qualification (assisted training)

Assisted training (AsA) can accompany you on your way from finding and taking up a suitable training position to the successful completion of your in-company vocational training.

The AsA supports you, for example in the event of poor grades or problems in the training company/vocational school or in your parents' home, which jeopardise the acceptance/success of the training.

You can also receive support from the AsA when completing an entry-level qualification (EQ).

An educational institution with experienced teachers, social pedagogues and a training supervisor will develop an individual support plan with you.

You can receive the support for a limited period of time, depending on your individual needs, but also during the entire training/EQ.

During your participation, a training supervisor will be available to you as a permanent contact person.

If you carry out your in-company vocational training or EQ part-time, you can receive equal support in the accompanying phase of the AsA.

Even as a young person with disabilities, you can participate in the AsA if your individual support needs can be covered and participation in working life is achieved.

Your training company can also be supported within the framework of the AsA in order to make your training or EQ a success.

The AsA is divided into 2 phases.

Pre-phase (optional)

This phase provides support in the search for and admission to an in-company training place. Content can be, for example:

  • Internships
  • if necessary, also career orientation,
  • Application training,
  • Strengthening motivation or
  • to a limited extent, the reduction of language and educational deficits.

Participation takes place full-time (39 lessons per week) and generally lasts 6 months. If you were unable to find an in-company training position during this time, participation can be extended by a further 2 months.

If you have signed an in-company training contract or contract for the implementation of an EQ, you can take part in the accompanying phase of the AsA at any time if you need further support.

During participation in the preliminary phase, you can receive vocational training allowance.

Note for customers who receive benefits from the job center (citizen's money):

If you participate in the AsA preliminary phase, you will receive an additional citizen's allowance bonus of 75 euros per month from 01.07.2023. You do not have to submit your own application for this.

Note for training companies:

As a training company, you can get to know your future trainee in the preliminary phase, for example through an internship, and also receive support from the training provider. These are, for example:

  • Support for trainers in the company in preparation for training
  • Support in the preparation of application documents for the application for funding by the training company.

Concomitant phase

At this stage, you can be supported:

  • by helping to reduce language and learning difficulties
  • in the promotion of theoretical skills, knowledge and abilities
  • with measures to successfully complete the training/EQ and not to discontinue it, and
  • preparing for the transition to a job subject to compulsory insurance after the end of training
  • in the stabilization or search for an employment relationship after the end of training.

Their support is coordinated with the training company and goes beyond the teaching of customary company and training content. You and the training company will receive individual support.

The number of hours per week for the exchange and teaching offer is individually tailored to your needs. In principle, these take place outside the in-company training period.

The duration of your support depends on your individual needs. This can be the case for the entire duration of your training/EQ, or only temporarily.

The previous offers of training-accompanying assistance (abH) such as:

  • tutoring for lessons at the vocational school,
  • Tutoring in language lessons,
  • preparation for class tests and exams,
  • Mediating discussions between trainers, teachers and/or parents,
  • Socio-educational support or
  • Support with personal problems that have an impact on the training/EQ

are still available, now within the framework of the AsA.

The AsA can be suspended for a maximum of 6 months if you do not have any need for support at times. If no further support is required at the end of the 6 months, the AsA will be terminated.

Follow-up care after completion of your training is possible for up to 6 months if you have found a job. If it did not work out with the start of a job, the AsA can still support the search for a job for up to 1 year after the end of the vocational training.

If you incur travel costs under the AsA, you will have to pay them yourself. The Employment Agency or the Job Centre does not reimburse these costs.

Note for training companies:

As a training company, you will receive

  • the necessary assistance in the administration, organisation and implementation of the training/EQ of the supported trainee(s)/participant in an EQ, and
  • support in day-to-day operations to stabilize the training relationship/EQ.

Regular discussions with your trainees/participants in an EQ help to identify difficulties and develop solutions.

For this purpose, a written declaration to the training provider is required that you enable your trainees or your participants of an EQ to participate in the individual support services within the framework of the AsA.

Process flow

You can take part in an assisted training measure after a personal interview at the Employment Agency or the Job Centre, if the eligibility requirements are met, if there is a corresponding measure in your region and a free place. If a personal conversation is not possible, your request can also be discussed by telephone.

  • Contact the responsible employment agency or – if you receive citizen's allowance – the responsible job centre and make an appointment.
  • Present the documents and evidence that prove your need for support for this interview.
  • You will discuss together your need for support and questions that arise from your records.
  • Based on the available information, the Employment Agency or the Job Centre will check whether you meet the requirements for participation and inform you of the result.
  • If you are scheduled to participate, the career counsellor of the Employment Agency or the integration specialist of the job centre will name the training provider that offers the assisted training and discuss the further procedure with you.

Note for training companies:

As a company that provides training or would like to provide training, please contact the employer hotline of the Employment Agency or the Employment Agency responsible for your place of employment. If the job centre is responsible for supporting your trainee, its responsibility depends on the trainee's home address.

Competent authority

If you receive unemployment benefit II, the job centre is responsible for you. Otherwise, the Employment Agency is responsible for you.

You can find the office of the Federal Employment Agency or the Job Centre responsible for you via the office finder.

As an employer, please contact the employment agency responsible for your company or the job centre in whose district the young person lives.
