School refusal

Refusal to attend school is understood to be a recurrent or prolonged absence from teaching, which is usually unexcused. Occasional cocking can also be a refusal to attend school.

Refusal to attend school is an administrative offence punishable by a fine of up to EUR 1000.

Parents who do not ensure that minor pupils regularly attend classes can also act in an irregular manner.

The school is responsible for the fight against school refusal in cooperation with the regulatory authority, the youth services and, where appropriate, the family courts.
