IED inspection of animal husbandry facilities: implementation - on-site inspections

The European Directive 2010/75/EU on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control), or IED or IE Directive ,, regulates the authorisation, operation and decommissioning of industrial plants in the EU.

The Directive entered into force on 06.01.2011 and was transposed into national law by the Member States by 07.01.2013. The law and the two regulations implementing the Directive entered into force on 02.05.2013.

The aim of the IED Directive is to avoid, reduce and eliminate as far as possible the environmental impact on air, water and soil from industrial installations.

The installations concerned are subject to special monitoring and must be regularly inspected as part of an on-site inspection. This must be carried out every 3 years and for animal husbandry plants subject to the reporting requirements under the PRTR Regulation (PRTR installations)(Pollutant Release and Transfer Register = pollutant release and movement register) every 2 years.

Plants that reach the relevant animal place numbers and also exceed certain pollution thresholds are subject to PRTR. The ammonia value is particularly important for animal husbandry. This is 10,000 kg/year.
