Which place to enter?

The location is used to determine the responsible office for the selected administrative service. In most cases you can enter your place of residence to find the competent authority. However, there are also cases in which a different location must be specified. Here are some examples:

Birth certificateYou want to get married and need a birth certificate. You live in Hanover, but you were born in Celle. You must therefore state your place of birth, i.e. Celle.

Business registrationYou would like to register a business in Braunschweig. Your place of residence is Hanover. You must therefore state the location of your future business, i.e. Braunschweig.

Apply for a building permitYou would like to build a house in Wunstorf and therefore apply for a building permit. Her place of residence is currently Hanover. You must indicate the place where the house is to be built. In this case it is Wunstorf.

Provision of the service under the designation of engineer from abroad Notification for the first time (EU)


The use of the professional title "engineer" is protected in Lower Saxony. If you have neither a place of residence nor a professional establishment in Germany and would like to work temporarily and occasionally under the professional title "engineer" in Lower Saxony for the first time, you must report this activity.

Requirements

  • Certificate of establishment as an engineer and non-prohibition of practising the profession

Processing duration

  • A maximum of two months after receipt of the complete documents
  • Exception for EU qualifications: if proven professional qualification falls short of that required under § 6 NIngG

What else should I know?

  • The notification necessarily entails entry in the register of foreign engineers.
  • If one year has passed since the last notification and the service provider still intends to provide services in Lower Saxony and to use the professional title "engineer", he or she must notify the Chamber of Engineers. If the situation certified in the documents submitted so far has changed significantly, the service provider must report this by submitting the relevant documents.
  • If significant differences in professional qualifications are found in a degree from an EU member state, these can be remedied by compensatory measures.
