Granting of a repair authority
Companies wishing to repair calibrated measuring instruments can apply for the granting of the repair authorisation in accordance with the Measurement and Verification Ordinance (MessEV).
Which documents are required?
Test certificates or calibration certificates with accreditation symbol for the test equipment used.
Certificates of competence.
Requirements
In order to be able to repair measuring instruments, it is necessary that the company has suitable traceable test equipment and competent personnel.
As proof of competence, the following is sufficient for every person who carries out repairs:
- a completed vocational training in a technical field or at least one
one year of experience in the field of maintenance/repair.
- Training certificates from the manufacturer or an authorized sales partner
regarding handling, maintenance/repair/testing of measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of the regulations of measurement and calibration law or calibration technology.

The decision to grant the repair authority is subject to a fee and will be charged according to expenditure.

The stated processing time is an average value (depending on the volume and quality of the documents submitted).

What else should I know?
The application for the granting of the repair authority should be submitted to the competent authority of the federal state in which the headquarters of the company is located.

Who should I contact?
The responsibility lies with the Landesbetrieb für Mess- und Eichwesen Niedersachsen (MEN).
The MEN has the nationwide existing tasks. It is subject to the legal and technical supervision of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Building and Digitalisation.
This procedure can also be carried out through a "Point of Single Contact". The "Point of Single Contact" is a special service offered by municipalities and the state for service providers.
